THE SCHOLA CANTORUM: A STUDENT MUSIC MINISTRY
The Prayer of Music
With praise in their hearts and a song on their lips, these (currently 29 Saint Mary’s students) form a special choir called the Schola.
Our “Schola Cantorum” (“school of singers”) adds harmony to weekday Mass hymns
and often performs a special composition in 2- or 3-part harmony during special occasions, like during our monthly mission collection, or at a class-planned Mass.
Our Schola is composed of auditioned boy and girl singers from grades five through eight who rehearse twice a week. They also form a young parish choir on special occasions, like on Christmas Day, Catholic Schools’ Week, Sundays, Eighth grade Graduation Mass, etc.
These singers add vocal harmonies to enhance the beauty of many of our Mass hymns. They know that “singing out,” like “speaking up” and “reaching out,” gives added witness and beauty to their Faith. Indeed, through the prayer of song, we ALL express our Faith together, lifting up our hearts and our voices to the Lord. The Schola harmonies enhance our congregational Mass hymns.
We thank the Schola for their dedicated noteworthy music ministry.
