This morning, our school had the privilege of receiving a visit by Mrs. Betsy DeVos, The US Secretary of Education. The visit brought excitement to all our children and staff, as all were eager to meet The Secretary!

Mrs.DeVos visited our Kindergarten room, where she graciously read the book “oh the places you’ll go” to Mrs. Andersen’s class. Our children did a wonderful job using their listening ears during story time and raising their hands for questions. They even helped Secretary DeVos read the book aloud!

After story time, Mrs. DeVos joined our 8th grade classroom where Mr. McEntarffer was teaching his students about distraction, and how distraction takes your mind and eyes off what you need to be doing. Considering the room had many many distractions at the time, the subject was quite fitting, and all got a chuckle out of it. The class then presented Secretary DeVos with a bouquet of roses as a gift from Our school. In return, Secretary DeVos presented our principal Dr.Nina Beck, with a signed “reTHINK SCHOOL” poster board.

Principal Beck, along with Father Dietrich, Msgr Perkinton and Bishop Conley gave Secretary Devos a tour of our beautiful church, where our Schola members filled the Church with their angelic voices for all to hear.

We are so VERY honored that Secretary Betsy DeVos chose to visit our school during her visit to Nebraska. We are very fortunate that we were able to show the uniqueness of our school, and to also be the representation of the Lincoln Catholic School System!!

Thank You, Secretary DeVos, for visiting Lincoln Nebraska, and most importantly for visiting St.Mary’s Catholic School!
